Socialization every Thursday, 5:30 - 6:30 PM, Franklin Township Animal Shelter
Meetings are held the 2nd Friday of the month at 7:30 PM

If you are interested in attending the meetings or want to help at with socialization on Thursdays contact Nora at volunteer@secondchanceforanimals.org. 

If you are interested in helping with animal socialization (cat socialization, dog socialization and walking) just come to the shelter Thursdays at 5:30 PM. On rare occasion, if there are too many volunteers, you may be asked to come back the following week. Also, please be understanding if you arrive and the shelter is closed due to the staff responding to an animal emergency. As you know, emergencies cannot be controlled and we ask that you try again the following week.

The Animal Enrichment committee focuses on activities that will make the shelter animals more adoptable.

For example, after work on Thursdays, a small group of Second Chance folks under the direction of the Animal Enrichment committee work at socializing the cats, in particular - the ferals, and in the summer, dog walking. To work with the ferals you need to be a real cat lover with some patience (and nerve!) Some cats come around quickly, some slowly and some not at all. We’ve seen many of our cats graduate to the adoption room and go to loving homes. Some of the them have been with us for awhile and we miss them when they leave for their homes but there’s no way to describe the great feeling we have one of them gets adopted.

Other activities include dog orientation, cage cards, follow-up calls to adopters, adoption and foster care packets, barn cat program and the spay/neuter plan.
